Reflection of 2014!

I thought this was a nice way to reflect on 2014 and just sit down and think about what I've done, what I didn't do and areas I need to improve on. So here we go, the questions are here and my answers are below. 

1) I don't have an event right now that I would tell me grandchildren about. This just means I need to life more lol 

2) Stressful. Supportive. Empowering 

3) I discovered that I can be really understanding of people's feelings and I am determined to go after what I want. 

4) I'm most proud of just being positive as much as I could throughout the year and not having breakdowns on a daily basis. 

5) The best news I received was my getting a job as well as being apart of two ambassador programs. 

6) A restaurant called Le Souk in NYC. 

7) Determination. I need to succeed and I needed to keep sight of that. 

8) My number one go to person? This is hard because I go to several people. So I can't narrow this down to one, but my mother, Vanessa, Josette and Aubrie.

9) I don't know if this would be considered a skill, but I've learned to think outside the box and don't be afraid to take risk. 

10) I'm thankful for my friends and my mom. Without them this year I don't think I would have made it. 

11) A biography. That's simply it. 

12) I've learned in 2014 to not think about other opinions when it came to my future and my career choices. As long as it made sense to me and I knew I could succeed then I knew it's the right choice for me. 

13) Failure. My biggest fear is that I become a nobody, that I would have just let myself go to the point where I'm struggling to live and would have wasted my life doing things I weren't happy with. 

14) Vanessa, Josette, Aubrie, Camille Z., My Aunt. (trust me there are SO many others!) 

15) Breakthrough moment career wise was actually changing careers. I previously wanted to be in Television Production, but when I say down and thought about it, I didn't see myself progressing in that field and I knew I was in the wrong field. 

16) I spoke to my mother more this year, I tried to open up to her more and just tried to have more conversations. 

17) I felt like my life was truly The Hunger Games. Always having to look over my shoulder and trying to find different ways to survive. 

18) Favorite compliment? That I was Beautiful and I've inspired people on their fitness journeys.

19) Blogging. I love blogging and love having content for you guys to read. 

20) I changed my blog name, created the layout for my blog, does that count? 

21) I was stressed a lot this year. That was my mental state. 

22) I ran a half marathon in May! It was super exciting. 

23) All moments are great spent with my friends, I'm not trying to be funny or conceited but I trying love being around my friends and I think they are the most amazing set of people ever. 

24) I laid the foundation for me to become a personal trainer and a run coach. I think I did that well, I hope so. 

25) Nothing, every worry I have is for a reason. If I'm not worried about it that's because it's already taken care of. 

26) Running my first half marathon, it was painful, is was brutal but it was worth it and satisfactory. 

27) I don't really know. Anything I received I appreciate it because people know what to get me to the Tee, they know what I like and what I dislike. 

28) To be positive and to speak things into existence while also keeping perspective on what my goal is. 

29) The biggest problem I solved was "What are you going to do with your life." That was literally the theme for the year. 

30) OMG, when Aubrie, Camille and I were at Whole Foods and this little kid fell and Aubrie asked asked "Are you ok" but the way she said it was hilarious. 

31) The purchase of my domain name for this blog. This blog as seen more exposure than what it was previously. 

32) The one thing I would do different is to be more persistent. I felt as I didn't know enough as a whole and that's disheartening to me. 

33) Nothing now. When I make it to where I want to be, then I can get a pat on the back. 

34) Workout and blogging. Those two things would have me looking at the clock and asking myself "what happened." 

35) "What am I doing wrong?" 

36) Fitness! And I'm still learning about it, it's exciting. 

37) I'm sure there's some, but I can't think of any that stand out to me. :( 

38) I would tell myself to keep trying and don't become so defeated. Even when it seems hard, when it seems impossible it will be ok and will be worth it. 

39) I wouldn't say a complete 180, but I did change the way I view life, I changed the way I viewed myself and I changed the way I viewed my relationship with others. 

40) My friend Aubrie. I say she's had the biggest impact because she knows what I went though, she's been in situations far worse than what I've gone through and she understood where I was at mentally and emotionally. 


41) The theme for 2015 is going to be Hard Work. I can't achieve anything without working hard and that's what I want to show. 

42) I was to see new places in the US while running. I want to travel the world actually, but I would love to race every city, every country, every state! Just everything. 

43) I want to spend time with people who want to spend time with me. That's it. 

44) I want to master fitness and nutrition by finding a way to help people enjoy these two important areas of their life. 

45) I was so strengthen the quality of urgency. I need to buckle down and I need to understand that everything I do has importance and needs to be done in a timely manner. 

46) I want my everyday life to being able to go to the gym, help people achieve their goals, hanging out with friends, learning this sport of running and cooking healthy and nutritious meals. 

47) Procrastination. I need to get rid of this ASAP. Nothing good comes from waiting and doing nothing while others are working hard at what they want. 

48) I mean I want to achieve everything I set out do to. I want my résumé to look so impressive in this industry that no one can turn me down. 

49) I want to remember 2015 as the year that I started my career. The year that's going to make me to be the person I will be in 10/20/50 years. I want to look at 2015 and want people to look at my 2015 and say "Damn, she wasn't playing, she said she was going to do something and she did it." 

50) Number one goal for 2015 is to have at least ONE Certification under my belt and to become a certified run coach. 

And that's it, that's my 2014 in a nutshell, I'm praying that 2015 goes much better.

Getting Ready for 2015!

So it’s almost the New Year and you’re still finding yourself stuck in your old ways? Are you trying to start the New Year in good spirits but seems like you can’t let 2014 go? Well look no further, I have my five ways that I like to get ready for the New Year to make sure I start off refreshed, focused and determined.

1) Clean your house/room:

The best way to start off the New Year is clean. Who wants to look at the same dirty, messy house and/or room for the year ahead? If you don’t do an actual scrubbing of everything you own throughout the year, now would be the time to do so. Whatever laundry you have should be done as well, I mean I don’t like to have dirty clothes accumulate on a regular day, so I definitely don’t want to bring them into the New Year. 

2) Buy Groceries: 

Everyone wants a stocked refrigerator, filled cabinets and food to last for a lifetime. Ensuring that you bring in the New Year with an abundance of food, shop for groceries. For some, the New Year is a time where resolutions are made and one of the biggest ones are to lose weight. Since nutrition plays a big part of that, stock your fridge with healthy and nutritious food and snacks. This is to ensure that you already have the necessary tools to succeed for the year ahead. 3) Throw away/redecorate: 

So you’ve cleaned your house, bought new groceries but don’t have anywhere to put them? How about getting rid of the things you don’t use anymore. I have a two-year rule, if I haven’t used it in two years, get rid of it. Now two years does seem long, but you never know when you might need something, so two years is ample time for me. Also, redecorate! Move some furniture around, maybe paint a wall, add some throw pillows or replace your comforter with a new one, doing any, some or all of these things will make you feel as if your in a new setting, something completely different from what you’re used to.

4) Create a PLAN:

What do you want to accomplish in the New Year? Where and what do you see yourself doing? Write it down or create a vision board. Put it a place where you can see it as a daily reminder to never give up on your goals and dreams. Make the New Year different than any other year. 


Reflect on everything that you’ve done or haven’t done throughout the year. What did you do right? Where did you go wrong? Could you have done something better? These are all things to think about. If you feel like the people around you are negative and not constructive to your life then its time to let them go. Only true friends and family will want to see you grow, not struggle. Just take the time to reflect on everything and don’t lie to yourself about it, that’s the only way reflecting works and the only way you as yourself can grow as a person.

Grocery Shopping Haul!

Happy Sunday everyone, it’s the start of a new week and the Sunday before the holidays. I decided to give you guys some insight on what I purchased between yesterday and today in terms of groceries and a couple of clothing items as well.

So recently I have been getting questions on how one should change their eating habits and what type of food should one be consuming. I always tell people the right amount of veggies, protein and carbs are important, not to over eat and not to under eat as well. With this I just wanted to give a little insight on how I shop for my food throughout my journey.

From left to right I have broccoli florets, almond milk, chicken breast, Greek yogurt,  cantaloupe, mixed veggies, coconut oil, roasted red pepper hummus, peanut butter, frozen mangos, more yogurt, beef jerky and trail mix.

I just want to highlight a few items that I purchased and actually super excited about.

1) Greek Vanilla Yogurt: 
I’ve never bought this brand of Greek yogurt before but I thought I would give it a try. With this bring 160 cals a cup and 20 grams of protein I thought it was a good idea to give it a try.

2) Coconut Oil
I usually cook in olive oil and I’ve never cooked with coconut oil, so I really wanted to give this a try. I hear constant chatter about cooking in different types of oil such as Grapeseed, avocado and a whole list of oils.

3) Indulgent Trail Mix:
This has to be THE BEST trail mix I’ve ever had. It’s filled with a lot of nuts and little sweets such as chocolate and peanut butter chips. Oh and it has cranberries and raisins as well. Doesn’t that just sound good? It’s the perfect combination of sweet and salty.

4) Simms:
You know, I called these beef jerky but I don’t really think they are. I’m not sure what these things are but it’s something else I wanted to try, they are very small and are only 45 calories a stick and six grams of protein. A nice on the go snack.

Do I have to explain this? I love broccoli, I think I can eat about three cups of this and not get sick of it, so I was very excited to just buy a bag of broccoli. Oh, I didn’t really buy it because it said organic, I bought it because it was broccoli. Yum!


Because I needed a pair of black jeans, I bought them. Still swearing a size 12, which is better than my pervious size 16, but I’m ready to move down to a 10.

I also purchased this turquoise beanie. It’s wintertime here in NYC and temperatures are dropping, so I needed something for my head, I don’t like hats much anyway, but this I can work with.

Well that’s pretty much it folks. I hope this helped and if it didn’t let me know what would and I’ll make a post about that!

Hit The Deck Workout!

Have you guys ever heard of this? I first learned about it on The Biggest Loser and I just thought “I have to try this out one day,” so today is that day. I have this workout a try. How does it work? Let me explain.

So of course you grab your deck of cards and give them a nice shuffle. Each symbol on the card represents an exercise and the number on the card represents how many repetitions you should complete.

The hearts means you have to do lunges and since it’s a face card, a Jack it equals to 11, so that’s 11 reps of lunges.

Seven reps of crunches

Four reps of push-ups

Another face card, which is a king, so that calls for 13 reps of reverse crunches.

The aces are your one-minute break, so take them.

I’ve seen variations of what some do with the aces and turn it into an extra workout and increase the reps to 14 or 20. Since I was replicating the Jillian Michaels workout, I decided to use it as the one-minute break and trust me, you’re going to need it.

I originally thought this was going to be so easy, but after completing it I am changing my mind, it was a tad difficult because you didn’t know what was coming and from time to time you could end up doing multiple sets of the same exercise back to back. But if you find that you can complete this once with ease, then reshuffle the cards and complete it again.

My Top 25 Food List!

The year is slowly coming to an end and I just wanted to share my top 25 things to eat to stay on track with my nutrition. I know it’s very easy to derail when you have a set goal in mind, but I like to consider some if not all of these foods my staples, oh and water.
So here’s the list:

1)  Quinoa
2) Brown rice
3) Aspargus
4)Frozen grapes

5) Apples with peanut butter
6) Califlower
7) Trail mix

8) Greek yogurt
9) Almond milk

10) Spinach
11) Shrimp

12) Broccoli
13) Baby carrots
14) Hummus
15) Frozen yogurt
16) Triscuts

17) Cranberries
18) Chicken breast
19) Salmon
20) Sugar-free jell-o
21) Steel cut oatmeal
22) Sushi

23) Strawberries
24) Eggs
25) Ground turkey or chicken

These are just some and not ALL of my favorite foods to eat, I have much more, but I like to make sure that I have these particular items in my house at all times. Maybe it’s time I should switch it up but I have found that these have worked and they just taste so good!

GirlsRunFast & 2015 Race Calendar!

Oh it’s been way too long since I’ve talking to you guys. Life has been getting a little busy but I promise I will be back often. Just trying to smooth everything over and come back and hang out with you guys!

So just a couple of things, 

1) I just became a GirlsRunFast ambassador! I found out late Sunday night and I have just been excited about it ever since. This is my first ambassador I’ve been partnered with and I’m not sure what goes into in 100%, however I’ve seen many other bloggers partnered up with different programs and so I’m sure GirlsRunFast isn’t too much of a difference which is great! So I just want to get started.

2) It’s winding down to the end of the year and it time to start planning for 2015, I mean after all the new saying is…

With that being said, I have my race schedule planned out, well tentative schedule because dates haven’t been released yet and I want to make sure I don’t do too much at once.

This is just a FEW I am going to do, I have more to add because if I want to run the TCS NYC Marathon in 2016 I have to qualify by doing the “9+1” program next year. That’s a lot of running next year, but I’ll be up for the challenge.

Product Review: Muscle Milk, Lean Protein Powder

Yesterday I was walking around in Walgreens looking for a hair product that my friend recommended to me and I ended up purchasing a pack of Muscle Milk. It was $1.99 for the Vanilla Crème so I figured why not, since I’ve never had it before I knew it was the prefect time to try it.

The package said to make with water, but I usually don’t make protein shakes with water, I use milk, I also added peanut butter and some small ice cubes. Before I start this package contains 25g of lean protein and lactose free. (Maybe adding milk didn’t help.)

You know that chalky protein taste? The one where makes you feel sick to your stomach and almost makes you not want to eat/drink it? Yea, that’s what I tasted here. I mean it wasn’t too bad, I’ve had worse but it wasn’t the best neither, because I’ve had better and that’s weird because I’ve had Muscle Milk products before such as the “ready-to-drink” chocolate milk and they don’t have the chalky taste, but this wasn’t the case.

I was considering purchasing the product by the tub since my job is having a sale on them but after purchasing this sample, I think I’ll pass. Maybe I should try it again but making it with water, would that change the taste? Is it worth it?

Happy December and New Goals

It’s December first! Officially the last month before the year is over. Can you believe it? I feel like this year went by so fast, I guess at a point we say that every year, but honestly I felt as if this year went by a little too quickly. I remember running my first half marathon back in May and now we’re in December.
So to close this month out I have decided to just jot down some quick goals for myself. I mean, let’s face it, it won’t hurt at this point so I just have to give it a try.


1)   Yoga for 31 days. (Everyday this month) – I truly believe yoga helped me PR for the Turkey Trot this past Thanksgiving and I feel a bit flexible, so 31 days straight should be prefect. 

2)   2) A loss in weight. So right now I just want to make sure that I am still capable of losing weight, I mean I know I am but I have been at a weird standstill and then a slight incline since May and it’s time for me to recharge and get back on the right track. I’m not putting a number on this but I want to make sure the scale is moving in the right direction. 

3)   RunStreak. I am currently participating in the Runners World Magazine Run Streak. Where you run a mile a day from Thanksgiving to the New Year. I started late but I am going to have at this challenge.

That’s it. I don’t want to overwhelm myself with too many goals this time around, so I’m just focusing on these three to the best of my ability and I’ll have new goals for January!
