Vacation: New Paltz, NY

Man, where do I begin? Ok, let's start from the beginning. 

Sunday morning 8:30AM
*Sleeping, then the phone rings"

Me: "Hello."
A: "Good Morning, wake up back and bag and come on."
Me: "OMG!"
A: "Are you still sleeping?"
Me: "Yes! I didn't go to bed until 4AM."
A: "That's stupid, pack your bag and let's go, meet me in the city"
Me: "Alright"

Needless to say that is how my vacation started, I didn't even know my destination until I arrived in the city. (NYC) 

Cut to vacation, I stayed at a vegan bed and breakfast (B&B,) which was a new experience for me, because one, I've never eaten vegan before, two, I've never stayed at a B&B before and three, it wasn't a typical B&B where the owners house is separate from the property, it's the owners house and we happened to be staying there. 

So, here are some of the other adventures I took part in.

I went rock scrambling, 

See those people in the background? Yea, we climbed up and in between those rocks. 

Went trail running (seven miles)
Ran three miles into town and then another four in the woods. 

And ate a lot of good food (sadly I don't have a picture of that lol.) 

I was particularly excited and grateful for this experience because it was an abundance of first for me, especially since I've decided to adopt the motto "try everything once." 

Well, I don't want to go rambling on about my vacation so I'll leave on that note, is this something I'll do again? Yes! 

Time to get back on this journey! 


Quick and Easy Foods #1

One of the foods I love to eat is…

Shrimp. Yes, shrimp. It’s very quick and easy to make and the cleanup is a breeze. Most of the time I will have a shrimp salad, which is usually after I’ve come home at 8 or 9PM and just need something quick to eat and cannot be bothered with the long drown out process of cooking a five-star meal, ha.
In my neighborhood, there isn’t a place to get fresh shrimp so because of that I end up picking up a frozen bag at target (Market Pantry brand.) The nutritional facts are as followed: 

Calories: 180 for 3oz. (9 shrimp)
Total Fat: 3.6g
Cholesterol: 306mg
Sodium: 828mg
Protein: 37.8g
Vitamin A: 7.2%
Vitamin C: 7.2%
Calcium: 10.8%
Iron: 18% 

*keep in mind the above values are for 9 shrimp and everything that isn’t listed has a value of 0.

I love to eat shrimp and sea food in general, it's better than eating red meat most of the time and I am usually in the mood for it. Saturday seems like a perfect day for shrimp.

Follow Up

Oh the doctors! How you sit and wait in the waiting area for the nurse to call your name, only to be taken into a room with eggshell walls, no pictures, a Dell desktop computer facing you and a window to your right. Oh but let’s not forget that dull grey hospital bed, you know, with the white tissue lining. The joy.

Any who, my priority for going to the doctors was for a follow up, I did blood work last week and yesterday was just to talk to me about the results. The doctor explained to me that I am perfectly healthy and have excellent levels in everything, EXCEPT vitamin D and liver. 

I am classified as Vitamin D deficient because of how low my levels are. Therefore I have to take a supplement for 8 weeks to spring my levels in the appropriate margins to be considered sufficient. The liver I didn’t get much advice on, just to watch on how much and how often I drink (which is not often anyway) but I guess I have to be a little more cautious now. 

As for my leg, I was just told to ice it and that was it, so I’ve been doing that religiously. I also did a Jillian Michaels yoga DVD and I must say the combination of these two has helped tremendously. 

Sadly this is week eight of my Color Run training and I don’t think I am going to be able to run at all this week, however I will try to get at least one run in, TRY being the key word. 


PS: 188lbs, getting closer and closer.

Leg Injury

*Sigh* seems like I always develop some injury that stops me from working out. I hate this!!
Last Thursday I had a performance for my job and we had to do an introduction and state our names, so of course I wanted to be fancy and unique so I decided to so a cartwheel into a split.


So, because of that I have come to the conclusion that I have pulled my hamstring. It had become very hard for me to walk, sit or even stand at a point, but now I have been taking care of it, I purchased a foam roller and it's getting a lot better, but not at 100% yet.

Yesterday I went bike riding just to get a workout in, but I didn't go as hard as I usually do, I want to make sure I can still work out without straining my leg, I don't want to prolong the healing of this injury, especially since The Color Run is in 18 days!!!

Anywho, I am going to the doctors office today and hopefully they can help me with this injury. I really need to workout, I feel very antsy because I haven't worked out at the gym or haven't gotten any runs in.


Updates, updates and more updates!

I know, I know! It's been awhile, but life has gotten busy but I finally set aside some time update you guys. So where so I begin? 

1) I am currently on week six of the Color Run training program. (This week requires running for 12 minutes and walking for one.)

2) On August 5th for the first time I ran for four miles. One of the hardest and yet one of the best runs I've had. (Outside run in the city.)

3) I'm tipping the scale between 189 & 188lbs. So I'm still going to consider myself 189lbs until I see a definite 188lbs. 

4) My eating has been up and down. Clear indicator of why my weight hasn't changed.  

So since today makes 30 days until the Color Run, I am hoping that I can lose 9 pounds by then. I would like to be 180lbs by the start of this race.
